Which One to Erase before reinstalling macOS\u2014Macintosh HD or Macintosh HD – Data?<\/h2>\n\n\n

This is one of the most common queries made by Mac users since Apple has segregated the Mac startup volume into two separate entities. The answer is you need to back up your Mac first<\/strong>, then open Disk Utility in macOS Recovery mode. Next, delete Macintosh HD*<\/strong> \u2013 Data<\/strong> the user volume, using the \u2013<\/strong> volume icon present on the top panel of Disk Utility<\/strong>. Later, select Macintosh HD the system volume, and click the Erase<\/strong> tab to erase the volume. Afterward, quit Disk Utility<\/strong>, and from the Utilities<\/strong> window, select Reinstall macOS<\/strong>. Click Continue<\/strong> and perform the onscreen instructions to reinstall macOS from the recovery drive.<\/p>\n\n\n
