Mac OS X Disk Utility is the tool to perform disk related tasks like disk mounting, disabling or enabling disk journaling, disk erasing, verifying and repairing disk and many similar. But in few Mac OS X versions, the utility is not found to function correctly. Specifically in Leopard, when it comes to format or delete a volume, the utility may show unexpected behavior. This issue can sometimes create Mac Data Recovery requirements. In such cases, users return with no success while making an attempt to erase or format the volume and an error similar to:
“file system formatter failed”
Users usually report the issue while they wish to change the file system of particular volume. The causes can be:
•The issue can be incompatibility of Leopard Disk Utility with the partitioning scheme that Leopard uses.
•If partition table is corrupt, Disk Utility may fail to perform any such volume erasing task.
Solution
To solve the issue, Mac disk needs to be repartitioned using Disk Utility. But the process erases all the data of other partitions too. Thus it is vital to backup all the data and check if it works for data restoration. However if backup fails to restore, when required, Mac Recovery applications will be required.
In order to repartition the disk through Disk Utility, we need to follow these steps:
•After opening Disk Utility, we need to select the required disk device and click the ‘Partition’ tab.
•From the drop-down menu, we can then select the number of partitions required.
•Using the ‘Options’ button, we can then choose the partition type.
•We then need to set required partition size and then click ‘Partition’.
Mac Data Recovery
If user loses data when no valid data backup is there, Mac Recovery applications can be used to extract lost information. These are the specific tools to scan the drive using algorithms. The applications are safe as of read-only design. Also, users can use them through the interactive interface they have. If installed on affected drive itself, the existing information will be overwritten. Thus they need to be installed on a healthy drive.
Stellar Phoenix Macintosh Data Recovery is the powerful application to recover lost data from HFS, HFS+, HFSX, HFS Wrapper and FAT file system based disks. The software has rich graphical interface. The software supports Mac OS X 10.3.9 and above including Leopard (10.5.x). It is a universal binary application.
